The name I highlight in this post is Jack Lemmon, actor and musician, considered one of the greatest legends of American cinema for his vast collection of awards. But before starting his artistic career, Lemmon served in World War II and only afterwards began working in radio, Broadway, and television, before making his film debut in 1954. Twenty years later, he would win the highest award in cinema: the Oscar for Best Actor.
Jack Lemmon received two Oscars: one for Best Actor in 1974 for “Save the Tiger” (1973), playing the character “Harry Stoner”, and another (previously) for Best Supporting Actor in 1956 for “Mister Roberts” (1955), playing the character “Frank Thurlowe Pulver”. Lemmon also received six Golden Globes: Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical in 1960, 1961, and 1973; Cecil B. DeMille Award in 1991; Best Ensemble Cast in 1994 and Best Miniseries or Television Film in 2000; he also won two Primetime Emmy Awards: Best Variety or Musical Program in 1972 and Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film in 2000; and three BAFTA Awards: Best Foreign Actor in 1960 and 1961 and Best Actor in 1980.
Jack Lemmon has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, located at 6357 Hollywood Boulevard, in the Film category.
John Uhler “Jack” Lemmon III was born on February 8, 1925, in Newton, Massachusetts, United States, and died on June 27, 2001, in Los Angeles, California, United States, at the age of 76.
Jack Lemmon was married twice. His first marriage was to American actress Cynthia Boyd Stone (1926–1988), from 1950 to 1956, with whom he had a son, American actor Christopher Boyd Lemmon (1954-). In 1962, he married American actress and model Felicia Farr (1932-), a union that lasted until his death in 2001. The couple had a daughter, American actress Courtney Lemmon (1966-).
