Tim Curry - ©Theda Bara

The name I want to highlight in this post is that of British actor, comedian, singer, and voice actor Tim Curry.

The actor gained fame primarily for portraying the clown-like entity “Pennywise” in the horror film “It” (1990), based on the work of writer Stephen Edwin King (1947–).

As a singer, Curry released three rock studio albums: “Read My Lips” (1978), “Fearless” (1979), and “Simplicity” (1981).

Another of his talents was horticulture; Curry developed and restored gardens at various properties, balancing what he considered a hobby with his artistic career. In 2006, he spoke to the British edition of “House & Garden” magazine about a project he undertook for the garden of Tanzanian singer Farrokh Bulsara, better known by his stage name, Freddie Mercury (1946–1991).

A biography written last year achieved great success in less than twelve months. Curry’s memoir, titled “Vagabond”, was released on October 14, 2025, by Grand Central Publishing; within its pages, he reveals significant details about his career and discloses that, after suffering a severe stroke in July 2012, he began using a wheelchair for mobility. Consequently, he shifted his focus primarily to voice acting, though he continued to perform publicly as a singer and make appearances at fan conventions.

Tim Curry does not have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, despite being considered a pop culture legend.

Timothy “Tim” James Curry was born in Grappenhall, United Kingdom, on April 19, 1946, and died in Los Angeles, United States, on August 25, 2026, at the age of 80.

Curry never married and had no children. He didn’t consider his relationship history a matter for public discussion, refusing to be labeled. In a famous interview given to After Dark magazine in March 1975, Curry stated: “I don’t talk about who I’m sleeping with or whether I’m in love. That’s of utmost importance to me and of little importance to your readers”.
