The name of this post that I bring to you is a true fighter. Victor McLaglen was an Anglo-American boxer who never achieved success in the ring. In his artistic career, however, he won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1936, for his performance in the film: “The Informer” (1935), playing the role of the former soldier of the Irish Republican Army: “Gypo Nolan”. War films were a highlight of the actor’s career.

Victor McLaglen has his star on the Los Angeles Walk of Fame, at 1735 Vine Street, in the Cinema category.

Victor Andrew de Bier Everleigh McLaglen was born on December 10, 1886, in Royal Tunbridge Wells, United Kingdom, and died a month before his 73rd birthday, on November 7, 1959, in Newport Beach, California, United States.

McLaglen was married three times, first to housewife Enid Lamont (1899-1942), who died in an accident after falling from a horse. The couple lived together from 1919 to 1942; his second marriage was to civil servant Suzanne M. Brueggeman (1895-1958) from 1943 to 1948, they divorced after a troubled 5-year marriage, and finally he married film screenwriter Margaret Pumphrey (1872-1959 ) from 1948 to 1959. The couple had two twin children, the English film and television director, based in the United States, Andrew Victor McLaglen (1920-2014) and the actress Sheila McLaglen (1920-), now 104 years old.
