Humphrey Bogart - ©Theda Bara

The name I present to you in this post is certainly known worldwide as one of the greatest icons of Hollywood’s golden generation. He is also one of my favorite actors, I am referring to the American Humphrey Bogart.

Humphrey Bogart won the Oscar for best actor (1952) for his performance in the film “The African Queen”, playing the role of the captain of the small boat African Queen, “Charlie Allnutele”. This statuette was his only award in his career.

In 1989, the US Postal Service issued a commemorative stamp about the actor. And several unauthorized biographies have been written about his life.

Bogart has a star on the Los Angeles Walk of Fame, at 6322 Hollywood Boulevard, in the motion picture category.

Despite his vast filmography, “Casablanca” (1942) is the film that marked the actor’s career, in which he played an American exile who took refuge in the city of Casablanca, Morocco, “Rick Blaine”, who meets an old flame, played by Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman (1915-1982), the character “Ilsa Lund Laszlo”, who is now married and needs help to escape the Nazis.

Humphrey DeForest Bogart was born on December 25, 1899, in New York, United States, and died young, at the age of 58, on January 14, 1957, in Los Angeles, California, United States.

Humphrey Bogart was married four times. His first wife was American actress Helen Menken (1901-1966), to whom he was married for only one year, from 1926 to 1927; a year after their separation, he married another American actress Mary Philips (1901-1975) from 1928 to 1937; his third wife and another American actress was Mayo Jane Methot (1904-1951) from 1938 to 1945 and finally he married the famous American actress Betty Joan Perske, known in Hollywood as Lauren Bacall (1924-2014) from 1945 to 1957, becoming Bogart’s widow. The couple had two children, the American writer, producer and businessman Stephen Humphrey Bogart (1949-) and Leslie Howard Bogart (1952-), who despite being a very beautiful and photogenic woman, did not follow in her parents’ footsteps, going on to work in the medical field.

  1. Dear friend Theodosia,
"Humphrey Bogart" is without a doubt one of the great icons of Hollywood, who only didn't shine more because he died before he turned 60.
    Another good film biography.
May things improve in Los Angeles.
    Kisses!!!
