Gene Kelly - ©Theda Bara

Gene Kelly was an American dancer, actor, singer, director, producer, screenwriter and choreographer, and that is the name I present on my blog. Gene became famous in Hollywood for his distinctive dancing style combined with his beauty and elegance. His greatest moment in cinema was in the musical “Singing in the Rain” (1962), playing the character “Don Lockwood”, because who doesn't remember the iconic scene of the lamppost with an umbrella in his hand?

The actor began having hair loss problems at a young age, which is why he had to resort to wearing a wig during filming.

Gene Kelly’s main awards are: Honorary Oscar in 1952, for the film: “An American in Paris” (1951); Primetime Emmy Award for Best Children's Series in 1967: “Jack and the Beanstalk”; Three Golden Globes: Best Film Promoting International Understanding 1958, “An American in Paris” (1951), Best Director of a Television Series: “Hello, Dolly” 1970 and Honorary Golden Globe “Cecil B. DeMille” 1981.

Gene Kelly has his star on the Los Angeles Walk of Fame, on Hollywood Boulevard: at 6153, Cinema category.

Gene Kelly has a post-mortem biography, written in 2020, that magnificently covers all phases of his life and artistic career: “Gene Kelly: The Making of a Creative Legend”.

Born Eugene Curran Kelly on August 23, 1912, East Liberty, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States, and died on February 2, 1996, Beverly Hills, California, United States, aged 83.

The actor was married 3 times. His first marriage was to the American actress Betsy Blair (1923-2009), from 1941 to 1957, with whom he has a daughter Kerry Kelly (1942-); his second marriage was to American Jeanne Coyne, a dancer, choreographer and Broadway actress (1923-1973), from 1960 to 1973, with whom he had two children, actor Timothy Kelly (1962-) and Bridget Kelly (1963-); his third and last marriage was to author Patricia Ward Kelly (1946-), from 1990 to 1996.

  1. Friend Theodosia,
“Gene Kelly” was a brilliant actor and dancer, along with “Fred Astaire”, the best dancers in Hollywood films.
Another good memory of a cinema icon.
    Kisses and good weekend!!!

  2. Such a great showman. I dunno..Singing in the Rain comes to mind. He really had a way of making it look so easy and I love that about his moves. A feeling we should all get up and dance. I don't know any other dancer like that.
