Clark Gable - ©Theda Bara

The actor I bring in this post is the American Clark Gable, considered by critics and cinephiles to be the “King of Hollywood”. His role in the 1932 romantic drama Red Dust, alongside actress Jean Harlow (1911-1937), a sex symbol of the time, made Gable MGM's biggest star. The actor was alongside other great Hollywood stars, opposite the Swedish Greta Garbo (1905-1990), the British Vivien Leighc (1913-1967), the American and fatal blonde, Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962) and with the then young Italian Sophia Loren (1934-), now 89 years old. Clark Gable's most iconic film role came in 1939, when he played the adventurer "Rhett Butler" in the film "Gone With the Wind," but the film that earned him his only Oscar for Best Actor came four years earlier, in 1935. , for his performance in the romantic comedy film: “It Happened One Night” 1934, playing an unemployed journalist, “Peter Warne”.

Clark Gable has his star on the Los Angeles Walk of Fame, on Vine Street: at 1608, Cinema category.

Born William Clark Gable on February 1, 1901, Cadiz, Ohio, United States, he died on November 16, 1960, in the emergency room of Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, Los Angeles, California, United States, at age 59.

Clark Gable had many lovers and was married 5 times, but he never denied that he truly loved only one woman: Carole Lombard, who died prematurely and tragically at the age of 33, decapitated due to the impact of the crash of the plane she was in. traveling, on January 16, 1942, leaving her husband a widower after a marriage of just 3 years.

The actor's first marriage was to the American theater and film actress Josephine Dillon (1884-1971), from 1924 to 1930; his second marriage was in 1930, to Maria Ria Franklin Prentiss Lucas Langham (1884-1966), a wealthy socialite from Texas, with whom Clark maintained a relationship, while still married, for 8 months. Upon separating from Josephine, he assumed Maria Ria and married her on July 19, 1931, but 7 years later they divorced on March 4, 1939; Clark Gable's third wife was the renowned 1930s comedian, American Carole Lombard (1908-1942), from 1939 to 1942; The fourth marriage took place after 13 years of mourning, Gable married British model and actress Sylvia Ashley, born Edith Louisa Hawkes (1904-1977), ex-wife of another renowned Hollywood actor, Douglas Fairbanks (1883-1939) , Clark and Sylvia were married from 1949 to 1952; his last marriage was to supporting actress, American Kathleen Gretchen Kay Williams Gable (1916-1983), a marriage that lasted 5 years, from 1955 to 1960. The couple had one son, John Clark Gable (1961-). 4. Friend Theodosia,
“Clark Gable” is one of the few actors to star in three films that won the Oscar for best picture. But it is also proof of how contradictory awards in the film industry are, because how can one explain an artist considered the “King of Hollywood” having only won one Oscar for Best Actor, in so many films in which he acted?
This was another good account of the lives of Hollywood actors. The regrettable fact was the horrible way in which “Clark Gable” became a widower.
Kisses and have a good week!!!
