Norma Shearer - ©Theda Bara

This name that I present is that of yet another pioneer of the seventh art, and the third Hollywood actress to win the Oscar for Best Actress, being considered “The First Lady of MGM Studios”.

Edith Norma Shearer won the Oscar for Best Actress at the second edition of the Oscar in 1930, for acting in the film: “The Divorced”, from the same year, playing the role of: “Jerry Martin”, a bitter woman after separating from her husband. 1930 was the only year in which there were two Oscar ceremonies, from then on, the Academy began to distribute only one statuette per year.

The actress has a star on the Los Angeles Walk of Fame, at 6636 Hollywood Boulevard, in the Cinema category.

Edith Norma Shearer was born in Canada on August 10, 1902, in Montreal, and became a naturalized American as soon as she went to act in Hollywood. She passed away on June 12, 1983, Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, United States, aged 80.

The actress was married twice. First with the American film producer Irving Thalberg (1899-1936), from 1927 to 1936 and then with the ski instructor Martin Arrouge (1914-1999), from 1942 to 1983, with whom she remained married until the day of her death.
