Gary Cooper - ©Theda Bara

The name I bring in this post is that of the American actor Gary Cooper, who became known and established himself for his various roles in western films. His career lasted from the 1920s until the year of his death, having acted in more than one hundred films.

Gary Cooper won three Oscars, two for Best Actor in 1942 and 1953, in the films: “Sergeant York” (1941), playing “Sergeant Alvin C. York”; His second Oscar came in the plot: “High Noon” (1952), in the role of former agent “Will Kane” and an honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement in 1961, two months before his death. But because Cooper was hospitalized, actor and personal friend James Maitland Stewart (1908-1997) received the award in his place.

Gary Cooper also won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama in 1953, for “High Noon” (1952).

Gary Cooper has his star on the Los Angeles Walk of Fame, at 6243 Hollywood Boulevard, in the Cinema category.

Born Frank James Cooper; on May 7, 1901, Helena, Montana, United States, dying on May 13, 1961, Holmby Hills, Los Angeles, California, United States, aged 60.

Gary Cooper was married for 28 years to New York actress Veronica Balfe Coope (1913-2000) from 1964 to 1981, who was the widow of American plastic surgeon: Doctor John Marquis Converse. Gary and Veronica had one daughter, the American author, artist and producer Maria Cooper Janis (1937-), married since 1966 to the renowned concert pianist Byron Janis (1928-2024) of whom she ended up a widow.
