Shirley Booth was born on August 30, 1898, in Brooklyn, New York, United States, and died on October 16, 1992, in North Chatham, Massachusetts, United States, at the age of 93.

Shirley was married twice, first to American actor, comedian, writer and comic book author Ed Gardner (1901-1963) from 1929 to 1942, and then to politician and painter William Hogg Baker Jr. (1907-1951) from 1943 to 1951. The actress was never able to have children.
