The actress was married to Philadelphia businessman, Ludlow Ogden Smith (1899-1979), president of OGden Ludlow Inc., from 1928 to 1934, from whom she separated to live a 30-year romance with American actor Spencer Bonaventure Tracy (1900-1967) winner of two consecutive awards, Oscar for Best Actor (1938 and 1939), married to socialite Louise Ten Broeck Tracy (1896-1983), that the actor never separated to take over his relationship with Katharine, living with Louise Until she became a widow, on June 10, 1967.
