Helen Hayes - ©Theda Bara

The actress I bring in this post is the American Helen Hayes, popularly known as “The First Lady of American Theater”.

Helen Hayes in her 49-year career, received the Oscar for Best Actress in 1932, for her performance in the film: “The Sin of Madelon Claudet” (from the same year), in the role of the protagonist: “Madelon Claudet”. The Oscar was supposed to be valid for 1933, but there was no Oscar ceremony that year, a fact that was never repeated again.

Helen has two stars on the Los Angeles Walk of Fame, on Hollywood Boulevard: 6549, Radio category and 6258, Cinema category.

Helen Hayes Brown was born on October 10, 1900, in Washington, D.C., United States, and died on March 17, 1993, Nyack, New York, United States, aged 92.

The actress was married to: the American philanthropist John Swanson (1894-1928), from 1926 to 1928, of whom she became a widow; marrying in the same year the playwright, screenwriter and winner of the Oscar for Best Story in 1935: Charles MacArthur , from 1928 to 1956, with whom he had two children: Mary MacArthur (1930-1949), who died suddenly of polio and years later, the couple adopted James Gordon MacArthur (1937-2010), who also became an actor, initially in theater , later going to act in the cinema.

  1. Theodosia,
“Helen Hayes” over time became one of the grande dames of Hollywood. The Oscar she won (1933), is the result of the merit of an actress who brought theatrical art to the “cinema screen”.
    Kisses and good weekend!!!

  11. Nie znam tej aktorki. Dziękuję za przybliżenie tej artystki.
Dożyła pięknego wieku. Szkoda tylko, że straciła córkę. Polio.
Miałam kuzynkę, która mając 19 lat zachorowała na heine - medina. Narzeczony ją zostawił, do końca życia była sama, na wózku inwalidzkim.
    Pozdrawiam
