Shirley Temple - ©Theda Bara

The actress I highlight in this post is Shirley Temple, who, in addition to acting in films, was an excellent dancer, tap dancer, singer and American diplomat.

In the government of Richard Milhous Nixon (1913-1994), Shirley Temple Black began her diplomatic career, aged 41, when she represented the United States in the General Assembly of the United Nations and served in two embassies. First on African soil, in Ghana, then in the former Czechoslovakia, between December 6, 1974 and July 13, 1976.

From 1935 to 1938, Temple was Hollywood’s highest-grossing child actress. Her only Oscar (the 1937 Baby Oscar, a special statuette half the size of a regular Oscar) came for four of her films: “Our Little Girl” (1937), playing: “Molly Middleton”; “Curly Top” (1935), playing: “Elizabeth Blair”; and “The Little Colonel” (1935), playing: “Lloyd Sherman”; and one of her biggest hits: “Poor Little Rich Girl” (1936), playing: “Barbara Barry”.

Shirley Temple has a star on the Los Angeles Walk of Fame at 1500 Vine Street, in the film category.

The actress born Shirley Jane Temple, on April 23, 1928, in Santa Monica, California, United States, adopted from 1950 the married name Shirley Temple Black. Temple passed away on: February 10, 2014, in Woodside, California, United States, aged 85.

Shirley Temple was married twice. The first with the American actor John George Agar (1921-2002), from 1945 to 1950, from whom she separated to marry the British businessman Charles Alden Black (1919-2005), from 1950 to 2005, from whom she stayed widow. When Temple died, she was not living with anyone.

  1. Its good to read about her. And she really went on to do so much. There always seemed to be something so humble about her. Thanks so much for the post.

  3. Theodosia,
Shirley Temple was one of the best actresses in Hollywood despite her young age.
But the film industry is cruel and as an adult she ended up not being as successful.
But even today when I watch one of her films, I always like it.
    Nice publication.
    Kisses!!!

    Saludos.
