Marilyn Monroe - ©Theda Bara

The model, singer, Hollywood movie star and one of the greatest sex symbols of the 20th century, who was immortalized for her natural blonde hair and voluptuous body, is the American Marilyn Monroe. She initially became famous for playing funny and clumsy characters, later she made films in other genres. But she was never nominated for an Oscar.

Marilyn Monroe was one of the many personalities portrayed by Andy Warhol, one of the central figures of Pop Art. But for him, Marilyn was his favorite.

The actress has a star on the Los Angeles Walk of Fame, at 6774 Hollywood Boulevard, in the cinema category.

Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jeane Mortenson, in Los Angeles, California, United States, on June 1, 1926, having committed suicide at her home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, California, United States, on August 4, 1962, aged 36 . Although nothing has been proven, the expert medical report indicated an overdose of barbiturates and alcohol. At the age of 30, the actress had already been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Marilyn was also a heavy smoker, she smoked from the age of 15 and in adulthood smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day, an average of 40 cigarettes.

Despite having a short life, Marilyn was the lover of many celebrities and statesmen, including John Fitzgerald Kennedy, JFK (1917-1963), 35th President of the United States, married to Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy, Jack Kennedy (1929-1994).

In addition to extramarital affairs, Marilyn Monroe was married three times: the first marriage, when she was just 16 years old, with police officer James Dougherty (1921-2005), a marriage planned to escape the orphanage where she lived, a marriage that lasted four years and middle, from 1942 to 1946; her second marriage was to baseball star Joseph Paul DiMaggio, known in the sport as: Joe DiMaggio (1914-1999), lasting just one year, from 1954 to 1955, and finally to playwright Arthur Asher Miller (1915-), from 1956 to 1961. Monroe and Miller’s separation was announced on November 11, 1960, when she filed for divorce, which was finalized on January 20, 1961, coincidentally on the same day as the inauguration of her lover, President JFK.
